The following is a brief description of Police and Private Security training courses that L.E.P.D. currently offers.  Check back for additional OPOTA classes to satisfy annual departmental continuing education requirements or call for multi-officer or multi-class discounts.

OC Pepper Spray

OC is a Less Lethal chemical agent made of hot pepper extract and is used to subdue resistive individuals in non-deadly confrontations. OC has been proven to be very effective over the last 30 years in Law Enforcement, Private Security and Personal Protection.

Course Hours: (3) The Officer will learn the history of chemical weapons, legal and moral responsibilities, practical use of the Spray, and Decontamination procedures.

Equipment Needed: Duty Belt and equipment for transition drills (firearms unloaded and no live ammo). Bath towel for decontamination (brief exposure).

Course Cost: $75.00


Impact Weapon (Tactical Baton)

The expanding/collapsible baton is an extremely valuable and practical weapon. Not just a “CLUB”. The Tactical Baton is a “TOOL”. There are numerous other uses for today’s Officer.

Course Hours: (4) The Officer will learn the history of the “BATON” in Policing, legal and moral responsibilities and practical use in Subject Control.

Equipment Needed: Duty belt and equipment for transition drills (firearms unloaded and no live ammo). Either the ASP or Monadnock Tactical Batons are preferred.

Course Cost: $100.00


Subject Control (Arrest and Control)

The Officer will learn accepted methods of controlling violent/resistive individuals.

Course Hours: (4) The Officer will learn reasonable and accepted take-down tactics, hand cuffing methods and transporting/holding restrained individuals for Arrest.

Equipment Needed: Duty Belt and Equipment, Hand Cuffs/Key. Firearms unloaded and no live ammo.

Course Cost: $100.00


Weapon Retention/Disarming

Course Hours: (3) The Officer will learn how to defend against attempts to take their firearms both holstered and un-holstered. They will also learn how to take a firearm away from an attacker.

Equipment Needed: Duty belt and firearm (unloaded and no live ammo)
